A Liminal Space. . . But Time. . .
Okay, now that the non-time between December 24 and January 12 is over I can sit down and really focus.
Time isn't real.
Doubly so during December and January.
So, I am working on drafting a pair of pants. I found this pattern on Mood Fabrics. (https://www.moodfabrics.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/MoodFabrics.com-MDF221-Calamint-Pattern-1.pdf)
It's a fairly simple pattern that shouldn't take too long to finish. I have this fabric that I bought years ago and can not, for the life of me remember what I was going to make out of it. It's going to be pants now.
This fabric dyes nicely, so even though these pants will more or less be a mock up, if they end up being wearable; super bonus. I'll probably dye them dark blue to really make them look like jeans.
I hate cutting patterns. I don't think there is anyone who loves cutting patterns. It's a tedious process and I always feel like I'm going to majorly fuck it up. Even with this pattern, cutting it out has been extremely difficult because I don't have the best cutting skills, combined with a terrible printer as well. These factors have been making this process stressful. I just have to keep telling myself that this is a mock up. It's practice to see if I'll even like these pants.
A Few Hours Later
And I fucked it up.
I cut the wrong lines on the front panel and now the pieces don't fit together properly. I have to reprint pages 5 and 6 and start over. It's not the end of the world, but it is very frustrating.
On a positive side, I have finished 3 colors of a cross stitch project I have been working on for like 2 years and, if I keep up my current pace (which isn't very fast at all) I will have the whole thing done by the end of February.
I also bought 6 patterns from Orenco Originals.
I love that Orenco lets you bundle any of their patterns in their Buy 2 get 1 Free deal. That is going to make it so much easier to get the patterns I need. Orenco also has patterns that are details from different tapestries, so I won't have to go through all the extra work to resize and crop details I need for different garments as much. There are details of details I want to incorporate into different pieces that I will still need to resize, but it will be so much easier. For example, for a shirt I want to make I want put a strap across the back. I am going to cross stitch the band to look like the collars on the dogs from tapestries.
I want to complain about the shipping time, but California is on fire and Orenco ships out of Oregon and I'm not going to be that bitch. There are more important things than my hobby right now.
Wrapping up, I have a lot of work ahead of me and I'm excited and scared to move forward and see what I create.
